Stambheshwar Mahadev, Gujarat

Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple is the disappearing temple which is situated about 40 miles from Vadodara in the small town of Kavi Kamboi of Gujarat. This Lord Shiva temple was found around 150 years ago. The specialty of this ancient temple is it’s location close to Vadodara in Gujarat, the Stambheshwar Mahadev temple shares shores with the Arabian Sea. Lord Shiva resides here, and blesses those who dare to venture into it. It is one of the most famous temples in India.situated in Kavi Kamboi, Gujarat, this 150 year old Shiva Shrine is flanked by the Arabian Sea on one side and the Bay of Cambay on the other. According to Kumarika khand in Skanda Purana, this Shivling was established by Bhagwan Kartik after he killed Tarkasur.

MYSTERY OF THIS TEMPLE

The only weird thing about this temple is that it can be visited only during hours of low tides. In hours of high tides, the temple is swallowed up completely by the sea, and it reappears hours later when the water descends, thus earning the name ‘disappearing temple of Mahadev’. Hence people flock this temple in large numbers to witness the event of submerging or reemerging of the temple from the sea.
This is a temple where god plays hide n seeks. When the flowers which were placed on the Shiva lingam by the devotees at the time of low tide comes afloat on the surface of the sea water at the time of high tide, it lends a spectrum of bright colors to the sea. Here the Mother Nature performs the ‘Jal Abhishek’ of the Holy Shiva lingam, herself.
